[Gossip] Hefner Gets Sued!

Suit says he is putting himself before the company...
A Playboy shareholder has started a class-action lawsuit against Hugh Hefner, stating that "Hefner has continued to live the good life and make sure everyone knows it. Hefner remains in the limelight, showing up at media events and at the Playboy mansion ... with his girlfriends by his side."
The suit goes on to say that "Today, the price of a Playboy magazine is far higher than the price of Playboy common stock." In 1999, the stock sold for $36 a share. Today Playboy closed at $3.14. The magazine sells for $5.99 ... because of the articles." It seeks unspecified damages.
I wonder if they will site Playboy's lack of nudity in the suit.

the drop in share price wouldn't have anything to do with the internet having mountains of free porn by any chance would it

It's a shame, really. Used to be such good shit written in Playboy, with hot naked broads inbetween. Now, there's interviews with shitheads and airbrushed fake titties.

If you wanna whack off you're gonna choose a free video on the net instead of a fucking picture. Plus you don't weird out the semi-hot chick at your local convenience store.

Agreed....Playboy needs to venture into porn.

Except Playboy wasn't about porn.
It was a classy magazine with well written and current articles, excellent celebrity interviews, a tasteful centerfold, and (often enough) a famous celebrity pictorial.
Shame that their articles are barely readable, their women barely real, and their celebrities- well, they're rarely A-list or nude.... it's a disgrace that the magazine has left it's 'Esquire' and 'GQ' ways in an attempt to closer emulate 'Maxim.'
There was a time where Lohan wouldn't be turning them down- they'd be turning her down.
If it were simply about being porn and getting off, Playboy would have been dead (many) years ago with Hustler, Penthouse, adult video rentals, and so on.

I don't think singular blame can be placed on Playboy's content and style, these days. Ultimately, Playboy is simply following the trend that has proven to be downfall of newspapers, video rentals, and countless other magazine publications. Everything that these services provide can now be found online and found for free to boot. They're simply becoming obsolete and archaic in their format as the Computer Age continues to revolutionize how we live our lives. I don't see Playboy, or many other publications for that matter, surviving the decade.

This may have been the case and perhaps even a legitimate argument back in the 90s. But now? Pfft. Forget it. Besides, families that can't afford to have a computer in their home aren't likely to have much in the way of magazine/newspaper subscriptions, either.

Additonally...
Catering to a minority demographic does not keep a company in the black. Just because "not everyone" gets their information online doesn't change the fact that most people DO. Hence why newspaper sales are down and hence why many newspaper publications are closing their doors.
